Jobs 101

So you think it’s up to the government to create jobs, fix the economy and lower the unemployment rate? That isn’t going to happen. Jobs are created when a company sees an increase in demand for their products. Whoever buys those products is creating jobs. So think about that for a minute! When you buy a product, the person making that product has work. Makes sense doesn’t it?

So what happens when you spend your dollars on imported products? Right! The person in the country where that product was made has work. No work is created (jobs) in this country if the products you buy are imported. With the minor exception of the low paying jobs of those who handle them.

What happens when you buy a product that is assembled in this country by a company that is foreign owned? I.e.: Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and so on! Some work is created here, but it’s only the low paying assembly or manufacturing jobs like stamping metal parts, etc. The high paying manufacturing jobs like making the engines, transmissions, and other complex components are retained in the home country, and therefore you are creating jobs in a foreign country when you buy a foreign branded product even if it’s assembled here in the USA. (What most people fail to think about is the amount of USA work that is lost when you buy a foreign brand or the amount of USA work that is gained when you pass up the foreign brand for a USA brand.)

O.K., you disagree because you state: there are foreign components in the USA brand vehicles. While it is true that USA car companies buy components made in foreign companies and even assemble some of their vehicles outside the US borders, when you buy a US brand vehicle or other products, you are creating work for US companies. And, most of the good high paying jobs are retained here.

What happens to the profit that foreign brands earn on sales of their products here? It goes back to their homelands to enrich their economies. When you buy products made in the USA, by USA companies, their profit stays here to enrich our economy. It’s quite simple! Maybe too simple so it gets overlooked or ignored.

Let’s face it, you have a right to buy whatever brand you want to with your money, but you should know and understand the negative effects it has on your own country when you choose a foreign brand over a USA brand (regardless of where either is assembled).

What each and every USA citizen should do is read the content label or the Made in (country) label, and make their decision based on what’s good for our country even if it’s not quite what you wanted.

We would all like to see politicians for once, do what’s right for the country rather than what’s best for themselves. I hear people say that every day. The majority said that in this last election. Yet, when each individual has the opportunity to do what’s right for their country, they do the same thing politicians do – they choose what will benefit them personally and overlook how they could have helped fix or save our economy.

You can hope and pray and vote and yell and scream about how the government should have and could have fixed the economy by now, but the fact is; the government can’t fix the economy. The government didn’t break the economy – you the consumer did every time you bought that made in China or made in (wherever) product. Every time you choose a foreign brand you are raising the unemployment rate in our own country.

If you want the economy to turn around and your future and kids futures to look brighter, you have to stop buying foreign made and foreign branded products. And, at the same time choose products made here that have the highest made in the USA content. Look at the labels - if it isn’t made here, walk away from it and find a comparable product that is.

Remember: only can prevent further deterioration of our country. If you care anything about your kids, grandkids, or your own future, you have to do what's right for your country when you make a purchase.

Crusher.

Joe, I agree with the overall sentiments expressed in your commentary. There is one factor that goes unmentioned when buying foreign made products. Quality of the product. If a foreign made product is a better quality product (perhaps, but to a lesser extent, cheaper) compared to a similar domestic manufactured product, free market principles dictate the better quality product will out perform the lesser quality product.

It isn't just that more US citizens should buy more American products, but that US companies need to make better quality American-made products which aren't being produced as much as in decades past. I'll happily pay more for a superior quality product made in the US, but as far as electronics and automobiles go, the US is vastly inferior.

US made electronics? There aren't any! Thank's to our politicians and their stupidity.

US made vehicles - they are every bit as good today as any foreign brand and I know of no foreign brand that sell for less than the USA comparable products. Maybe 10 or more years ago the USA brands were lacking, but not today. Your argument is outdated!

Crusher,

but as far as electronics and automobiles go, the US is vastly inferior.

I Respectfully dissagree with that comment, The US makes high quality cars, in the 80's not so much but over the last decade the US has improved the quality and as for fuel economy I own a Park avenue (97)and a sentra. on the highway the PA gets 2 miles a gallon less than the sentra and as for quality not sure yet the sentra is fairly new but havnt had any major problems with the buick.

The US may have less cars on the top 10 but we still have some

Auto magazines have been less that fair to US made vehicles over the past 40 years in favor of the advertising dollars that the foreign brands spent with them. There are many foreign brands over those decades that were no where near as good as the magazine ratings claimed they were. I know, I was in the auto business.

Regardless, the products made here in the US are usually superior and if they aren't it's because retailers like Walmart bully them into reducing their prices to compete with China. It isn't possible unless you reduce cost somewhere.

If the consumer would demand Made int he USA, retailers would have to take a little less profit and the USA would be better off.

The bottom line is this: buy Made in the USA by USA companies or watch your country and your lifestyle spiral downward. I'm 70 this week and have no children, but you people with kids and grandkids - you'd better think real good before plunking your money down for a product made elsewhere.

This is NOT a world economy. World economy is BS spewed out by those who want your money outside of this country.
